Jonathan Jacobson

Co-Founder

Jonathan Jacobson started his first business when he was twenty-three years old – building new houses in Central Alberta. Because it is such a capital-intensive business, he learned through the school of hard knocks how to creatively fund and finance his deals. 

Through this he discovered his true passion in business – creative capital deals. Leveraging this knowledge into the creation of a micro loan business, 198 Loans, Jonathan has overseen loan growth of over 6000% in the four years his company has been operating. Raising over 2.5 million in investor capital in the first two years of business, the business now boasts total loan assets of over 3 million dollars. 

With his partner, Sean Claremont, Jonathan has a vision for Libertas Capital to provide superior returns for its investors through a diversified portfolio that focuses on both secured and unsecured high interest medium term debt. 

In addition to his duties with Libertas Capital and 198 Loans, Jonathan is the Executive Chairman of Nordic Developments and Broder Homes, as well as a City Councillor for the City of Lacombe. When he’s not working, all his time is devoted to his wonderful wife and daughter.  

Sean Claremont

Co-Founder and President

Sean Claremont, commonly known as "Mr. Excel" and "The Agent of Change" - lessons learned from his primary Corporate background. Sean learned very quickly the power of both finance, and the importance of access to capital, from his previous career at a public exchange-listed Oil & Gas services company. 

Since an early age Sean has had an interest in anything that could be torn apart, analyzed, improved upon, and put back together. This led to an interest in both investing in public / private securities, mortgages, real estate, money lending, and finance in general.

Equipped with an MBA and a background in process improvement, Sean's focus is on meeting company objectives, running as lean and efficient as possible, and continuous promoting the usage of technology in business operations. 

When he is (rarely) not working, he enjoys spending time with friends and family, particularly his loving wife and daughter.
